LUCKY CHARM: Work it with the evil eye and ward off the wicked.

Feeling like 2020 is "cursed"? Go on and give it the evil eye.

The "evil eye"- that malevolent glare believed by many cultures throughout the Mediterranean, The Middle East, and Western Asia to bring misfortune and harm upon the innocent - is feeling a little less legend and a lot more real these days.

A quick recap: Bushfires mercilessly destroy precious Australian wildlife. A horrific helicopter crash tragically takes a national treasure, along with his beautiful daughter and every other passenger on board. The novel coronavirus plunges us into The Twilight Zone. Murder hornets become a thing. (U freakin' kidding me with this?) The government officially confirms that UFOs do indeed exist. (Told ya.) Racial tensions reach a boiling point, someone hits rewind, and civil rights-wise we've reverted back to the sixties because evidently, there are still ignorant a-holes out there who've yet to grasp the fact that black lives matter.

I think 2020 is trying to kill us. Can I get an "amen"??

So how can we reverse the "curse"? Honestly, I don't know, but the evil eye seems to me as good a solution as any. Charms, amulets, and talismans bearing eye-like symbols known as "nazars" (concentric blue and white circles believed to repel the evil eye) are commonly sighted throughout Greece, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, Morocco, Spain, India, and numerous other countries. (Even Israel and Lebanon see eye-to-eye on this one.) The evil eye emblem is found at every turn throughout these places, making it the souvenir of choice for thousands of tourists.

If you haven't already picked one up in your travels, have no fear. As luck would have it, fabulous fashions and accessories bearing the formidable evil eye symbol are aplenty. Here's an eye-catching selection I've pulled together just for you.
